Building thriving communities at Talk Changes

Building thriving communities is at the heart of what we do. Strong, inclusive communities foster belonging and support better mental health for all. Research shows that individuals experience less stress and anxiety when they have access to supportive relationships, meaningful activities, and opportunities to grow.

Youth Empowerment Project

We work with schools and community groups to provide early intervention and resilience-building support for children and young people.

Our youth services include:

  • School-based counselling and mentoring

  • Anger management and behavioural support

  • Creative therapy, including art-based emotional expression

  • Youth-led projects designed by and for young people

  • Mentoring programmes to build identity, confidence, and communication

We aim to empower the next generation with tools for emotional wellbeing, self-belief, and resilience.

Adult Empowerment Projects

Our adult programmes support mental health, reduce isolation, and promote emotional healing through culturally sensitive and trauma-informed approaches.

Activities include:

  • Walk, Talk & Empower – nature-based walking groups that combine movement, reflection, and mental wellbeing

  • Knit & Natter – social knitting groups that foster creativity and connection

  • Understanding Domestic Violence Through Art – art therapy sessions for survivors

  • Chit & Chai / Let’s Talk – informal coffee mornings offering peer support and open discussions around mental health, parenting, and relationships

  • Bereavement Support – safe group spaces for women processing grief after miscarriage or stillbirth (open to all cultural backgrounds)

  • Calligraphy for Wellbeing – mindful sessions using Islamic and traditional calligraphy as a form of healing and spiritual connection

  • Sip and Paint – therapeutic art evenings that encourage emotional expression through creativity in a relaxed setting

  • Learn to Ride – cycle confidence sessions promoting independence and wellness

Horse Riding for Confidence – equine-assisted sessions that support emotional regulation, trust-building, and confidence, particularly for those with trauma or anxiety

Community Wellbeing and Inclusion

We understand that good mental health is shaped by access to safe housing, secure employment, and community belonging. Our wider work includes:

  • Targeted support for minoritised and global majority communities

  • Hosting community cohesion events to reduce stigma and build relationships

  • Collaborating with local services to amplify access to wellbeing support

Designing projects that respond directly to community feedback and needs
